A MECHANICAL fire caused the evacuation of the Palace Hotel in Lang Lang on Tuesday afternoon.
CFA units from Kooweerup, Lang Lang, Bayles and Pakenham raced to the McDonalds Track hotel just before 3pm to find thick black smoke billowing from a small fire that had broken out in machinery in the cellar.
Incident controller and First Lieutenant Michelle Venton was first on the scene with captain of the Lang Lang Fire Brigade, Mark McPherson.
“The Lang Lang Fire Brigade was first to arrive,” she said.
“When we arrived everyone had already evacuated from the hotel.”
Fans were used to dispel the high levels of carbon dioxide and smoke that had built up in the cellar.
A spokesperson from the CFA said the fire caused plastic to melt and 15 people were evacuated.
The fire was brought under control in an hour.
