Casey seeks own blood bank

By Jim Mynard
RIVER Gum Ward councillor Wayne Smith wants a permanent Red Cross Blood Bank established in the City of Casey.
Cr Smith said a large number of Casey residents gave blood and many more could attend if there was a permanent centre.
He said one problem with the blood bank visits to Narre Warren North was a long waiting time.
“People can wait for as long as three hours for their turn.
“We also have blood bank attendance at Berwick Secondary College and it is fantastic to see the number of students who give blood.
“If we had a centre, people would be able to attend at times that suited their work and business schedules.
“The centre at Ringwood works well,” he said.
The council agreed to invite Red Cross Blood Bank representatives to visit Casey for a meeting with the mayor, chief executive, relevant officers and councillors to discuss the proposal.
