RESIDENTS are getting behind Bunyip’s push for a community bank.
About 100 people attended a public meeting to kickstart a public campaign on Saturday.
People leading the bank project bid believe it would be an investment in the town’s future.
They say they are already well on the way to generating the $600,000 needed to open for business.
Cardinia Shire’s Bunyip ward councillor Bill Pearson said a committee of 18 people was formed to lead the bank push.
Cr Pearson urged residents to show their support by attending another meeting in Garfield this Saturday.
“Our plan for a community bank would see it open six days a week, including Saturday morning,” he said.
Cr Pearson said the committee needed to raise the $600,000 in three months.
“Our aim is do it in two,” he said.
