THE City of Casey has welcomed the State Government announcement that the Clyde RoadEnterprise Avenue, Berwick, intersection would receive a $2 million upgrade.
Casey mayor Kevin Bradford said he was enthusiastic about the proposal.
He said the intersection was Casey’s secondmost urgent intersection priority.
He said the council had lobbied intensely to have the safety concern addressed.
“On behalf of the City of Casey, I congratulate the Minister for Transport, Peter Batchelor and State members for listening and responding to this critical need.
“Issues around traffic congestion, delays and safety concerns at this intersection have been well publicized by the City of Casey, through media briefings and to and members of parliament.
“This funding announcement demonstrates that the council’s efforts, in partnership with the community, can achieve results to improve the safety and livability of our municipality.
“We look forward to the improvements at this intersection.”
Cr Bradford said another matter of urgency was duplication of Clyde Road, between Kangan Drive to High Street, to further alleviate the bottleneck congestion.
“This remains Casey’s highest mainroad priority,” he said.
