A similar number was yarded at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange, Warragul, last Wednesday for the Fat Sale Sale and there was an improvement in prices on the back of a better percentage rate of good condition cattle.
Extra bullocks were penned and with demand still strong for good heavy head, the average lifted a much improved margin.
Heifer numbers were similar and were firm to stronger.
Feedlots were again strong in the steer section and pushed the average up with a good selection of extra pen lots available.
A few less vealers on offer saw processors lift in the better pens giving a rise in the average price, with a more consistent range of condition and less secondary pens.
The yard average was up 18 cents to 259 cents.
Sixty five bullocks topped at 292 cents, up 12 cents, and averaged 276.9 cents, up 36 cents; 61 heifers topped at 273.6 cents, up four cents, and averaged 232.6 cents, up two cents; 116 steers topped at 295 cents, firm, and averaged 266.6 cents, up 17 cents and 343 veal topped at 316.6 cents, back two cents, and averaged 258.4 cents, up 17 cents.
A smaller yarding of 378 head greeted buyers on Thursday and with demand still firm and the return of an absent buyer from recent weeks prices lifted across the categories.
Twenty two bulls made to 270 cents, up four cents, and the average was up 15 cents to 229 cents.
Extra bullocks this week but still night numbers saw 19 head penned and the top was 285.2 cents, with an average of 264 cents.
Cow numbers were down 200 head to 332 cents, with a top of 232.6 cents, up four cents, and the average was eight cents better at 184.1 cents.
Thursday’s yard average was up 12 cents to 192 cents.
