KILCUNDABASS and Nyora both gained significant breaks on the points table from their nearest Bgrade opponents after gaining impressive outright victories in round one.
KillieBass declared its innings closed at the start of the day on 8/71 and registered a crushing blow to Pakenham when it wiped out the Lions in their second innings for the dismal total of 61.
Darren Crawford scored 12 not out, but the remaining Pakenham batsmen failed to cope with the fiery pace of Paul Cornelius and Dean Pipicelli who snared 5/15 and 2/11 from their respective nineover spells.
The Sharks then continued their ferocious form by scoring the 60 runs required for outright points without losing a wicket, with Craig Hart registering an undefeated 40.
Nyora gained a firstinnings lead of 16 runs when it was dismissed for 102, with Cranbourne Meadows allrounder Josh PaxtonWhite collecting the fine figures of 4/25 from 15 overs.
The host bowlers again excelled when the visiting Rebels were routed in their second innings for 51.
Paul McCutcheon scored a gritty 17 not out, but his teammates had no answer to the impressive bowling of Nick Fairbanks who captured a superb 5/17 from 11 hostile overs. Ben Hackett then reached 19 not out when Nyora scored the 37 runs required for maximum match points.
Nar Nar GoonMaryknoll crushed the Merinda Park B grade team by a mammoth 233 runs. The Cobras were writhing after being shot out for 80 in their first innings, but staved off outright defeat after reaching 3/32 by stumps in their second dig. Adam Cooper (4/17 from 13 overs) and Brendan McGrath (3/17 off 15.5 overs) caused the firstinnings collapse.
Beaconsfield easily accounted for Tooradin by 135 runs in its Bgrade clash.
Andrew Sparks and Grant Kernot, who scored 73 and 30 respectively, batted well for the Seagulls.
Jarrod Williams produced a pleasing bowling performance, claiming 5/70 from 17 consecutive overs for the winning Tigers.
The Cardinia Bgraders were too strong for PUT that fell short by 57 runs after being dismissed for 160.
John Wallin scored a hardhitting 63 for the Yabbies, but persistent bowling from Matt Adlam (3/22 from 11 overs), B. Welsh (3/24 off eight overs) and Nathaniel Wade (3/39 from 11 overs) proved too much for the host batsmen.
Nick Fromhold scored a breezy 19 and snared 3/28 from eight overs when the Bulls reached 6/160 in their second innings.

C GRADE

The Bombers totalled 137 in their first innings, ran through the Bulls’ batting herd for 78 in their second dig and then notched the necessary 47 runs needed for the outright win for the loss of only three wickets.

Pakenham managed to avert outright defeat at Merinda Park, but the Cobras struck with impressive venom to win comprehensively by 183 runs.

PUT accounted for Clyde by 26 runs.
Adrian Grey finished with the memorable figures of 6/4 from ten overs to clinch a Yabbies’ win, his young teammate Blake McGrath scored a pleasing 40, while Clyde’s best bowler was Mick Bishop, who captured 5/45 from 13 overs.
Mick Payroli, with bowling figures of 7/57 from 18 overs and a firstinnings score of 18, did his best for Nar Nar GoonMaryknoll, but the Nyora team still prevailed by 58 runs.
Cornelius Samuel batted well for his match aggregate of 96 runs, while Kevin Toogood captured 5/31 in the Goons’ second innings.
