Bats star in run chase

NARRE Warren’s turfone bats made short work of a 230 run chase against St Mary’s at Carroll Reserve on Saturday, winning by five wickets.
Dwayne Thomson and Dima Dimakopoulos started well to be 30 after 10 overs.
After Thomson fell, a good partnership followed with UK recruit Dean Williams and Dimakopoulos.
Williams fell for 22 and John Simpson 10.
This brought new captain Wendell Perumal to the crease and with Dimakopoulos put on a quick partnership of 75, Dimakopoulos 64 and Perumal 51.
Enter Dwayne Scott and Prateek Munjal.
Scott finished with 27 from 29 balls not out and, Hawthorn recruit, Munjal 22 from 45 balls not out.

TURF THREE

Narre defending 306 had St Mary’s all out for 154.
Bryce Millar bowled well to finish with 5/26. Les Brown gave great support picking up 2/30 with Michael Sigaras, Steve Woodward and Mick Teeuw, one wicket each.
Narre batted a second time and the game was called off with Narre Warren 0/31, Martin Green on 16 and Sigaras 14 both not out.

A GRADE

Playing Hallam, resuming at 0/24 chasing 196, Narre made a steady start and was 1/50, before being bundled out for 150.
Best of the bats were Ben Charles 30, Shaun vanDam 28 and Colin Perumal 19.

D GRADE

Defending 198, Narre Warren had Springvale South 3/21 in the first innings.
Narre started well and wickets fell constantly. Regan Welburn spearheaded the attack and collected 8/26 in a brilliant spell, supported by Mark Churchill who took his first senior wicket and finished with 1/12.
Glen Landry also took a wicket and Springvale South was all out for 65.
Narre Warren enforced the follow on and went for outright points.
Once again all the bowlers performed well, but it was Regan who destroyed the Springvale South lineup and finished with six second innings wickets to finish with the incredible figures of 14/61 for the match.
Glen Landry collected another wicket and Matt Brew completed a beautiful run out.
In its second innings Springy South was all out for 110 and Narre Warren scored full points for the match in a great team performance.

E GRADE

Narre Warren was defending 147, with Cranbourne 0/27 at the start of the day and was bowled out for 132.
Glen Cank bowled 21 overs for 4/43, Roy Huke 25 overs, 1/35, Vic Bradshaw 12 overs, 3/31 and Mick vanDam nine overs, 2/21.

ONE DAY

Southern Pirates won the toss and elected to bowl with Narre getting off to a solid start with openers Fred Besterwitch and Brian King at the crease before the first wicket fell in the 15th over. Besterwitch 29 and King following shortly after.
Stephen Twist and David Woods came together for a 40run partnership.
Twist made a solid 35 and Woods 12 following the next over to have Narre 6/97.
The last four wickets fell for 10 runs, taking the score to 107.
Opening bowlers Twist and Travis Brinkmann bowled well to have the Pirates 0/30 off 18 overs.
Besterwitch finished with 2/35 and Pirates won by five wickets.
