Market firm on mixed quality

There were approximately 350 export and 650 young cattle penned, representing an increase of 440 head week-on-week at the Victorian Livestock Exchange.
The usual buying group was present and operating in a generally firm market.
Quality was very mixed, however there was an overall improvement with more showing finish and fewer winter affected drafts.
The vealers and lighter weight yearling cattle to the trade eased a few cents while the heavier drafts, over 400kg, sold firm to a few cents dearer.
The limited selection of grown cattle sold to mixed results with the grown steers improving a few cents while the bullocks eased a few cents.
A limited selection of vealers sold mostly from 280 cents to 340c/kg. Yearling trade steers made between 310 cents and 346c/kg.
Yearling heifers to the trade sold between 288 cents and 328c/kg. Feeder steers made from 290 cents to 325c/kg.
Grown steers sold from 300 cents to 325 cents after a top of 338c/kg for a pen of grain assisted steers of excellent quality.
Bullocks made between 310 cents and 324c/kg.
A limited selection of grown heifers reached a top of 315 cents while the manufacturing steers reached 307c/kg.
