Minister opens school art show

THE culmination of a year’s hard work came recently for Emerald Secondary College students when the school held its third annual art exhibition.
Minister for Education and Training Lynne Kosky was on hand to officially open the show which featured all types of artworks created by the students throughout the year.
The college’s principal, Wayne Burgess, said the exhibition was becoming a highlight of the school year.
“This is the third event we have held and it gets bigger every year, with more items and more diversity of work.” he said.
“This year is our school’s 21st birthday and the show coincided with the opening of our new senior school building.
“We had a few hundred people come through on the Sunday with more groups viewing the show on the Monday and Tuesday.”
Mr Burgess said the pieces on show were of the highest quality.
“Everyone who attended was really amazed at the high quality of the artwork on display,” he said.
“Some people were commenting that it must have been the best work from all the years but we only displayed works students had created this year.”
Mr Burgess said the success of the show was testament to the students’ hard work.
“It’s just a great opportunity for the kids to showcase their work.
“When you see the calibre of art on show you really appreciate the talent these kids have.” Matt Trotman
