Upper Beaconsfield runs wild

SMARTING from its first loss of the season the Upper Beaconsfield’s Bgrade side bounced back with a runmaking spree against Cardinia on Saturday.
The chase for the Bulls’ 158 total began with a magnificent platform from openers Dave Taylor and Dan Brennan who compiled the first century partnership of the season a great 108.
Brennan fell for 53, his best knock for the year, while Taylor scored a masterly 58.
This effort was duplicated by batsmen to follow Glen Kilburn (45) and Scott Pitcher (66).
Matt Scanlon then showed he is worthy of a place in the team as he struck a useful 29 leading Upper Beaconsfield to 9/309 the best total for many seasons.

While 156 might have been the best total Upper Beaconsfield has accumulated for the season, its inability to make early inroads into the Kooweerup batting ultimately undid the batting from the previous week.
The Demons hit the ball hard and took toll of short bowling.
The makeshift attack faltered before the variety of Dave Ardley began to place a little pressure on the batting side.
Ardley bowled a handy spell to take 3/45 and at one stage Kooweerup slumped to be 4/82
However in the face of the aggressive Demon approach, Upper Beaconsfield failed to take enough wickets before its opponents passed the total that turned out to be a meagre one.
Rob Hansen picked up 3/29, but the damage had already been done.

Chasing Nar Nar GoonMaryknoll’s 2/144, the team reached 8/104 after 40 overs.
Jack Sheppard excelled by reaching a personal milestone, retiring on 30, while Alistair Conn also batted sensibly to make 21, while Ashley Hughes compiled 14 not out in a pleasing batting effort.
