Boy, 8, part of youth crime spree

AN eightyearold boy was among a group of youths on the wrong side of the law during a night of crime in Pakenham on Saturday.
The group of six boys, the eldest of whom was 16 years old, were picked up by police and interviewed in relation to a string of thefts.
Five of the youngsters were from Narre Warren and another was from Pakenham.
Several cars were broken into with cash, CDs and radio equipment stolen and a number of bicycles were also taken from houses.
Police said three bikes were stolen from the carport of one house.
Several of the youngsters will face charges at Dandenong Children’s Court.
Police were alerted by a resident who had apprehended the boys, believed to have caught the train to Pakenham from Narre Warren.
“They have been spoken to severely,” Acting Senior Sergeant Graeme Higginbotham said.
Police were concerned that young people were roaming the streets in the middle of the night and called on parents to take more responsibility for their children’s actions.
“We are closely watching the behaviour of young people, particularly if they are out and about at inappropriate times,” Act Sen Sgt Higginbotham said.
Residents missing bikes are urged to contact Pakenham Police on 5941 1033.
