Keep unique clock ticking

RIVER Gum Ward councillor Wayne Smith wants Casey Council to ensure that the steam clock at Pioneers Park, Berwick, is retained on a permanent basis.
He noted that the Casey Arts and Cultural Reference Group had commended the clock as a wonderful new addition to the park.
Engineer designer Peter Weare of Berwick is putting a few finishing touches to the steamer, but says he will still make some changes as he improves it to perfection.
The timepiece is unique in Australia.
The City of Hobsons Bay had a taste of what is Casey’s timepiece when it went on show in the Visitor Information Centre (VIC) at Williamstown, but it has been brought home.
The clock, which runs on steam power, appears to have no moving parts.
Besides being an engineering masterpiece and a piece of significant outdoor art it is expected to become a tourist attraction and meeting place in Pioneers Park.
