Buyers hold back in dearer market

THERE were approximately 300 export and 550 young cattle penned representing a decrease of 260 head week-on-week at the Victorian Livestock Exchange.
There was a full field of buyers present but not all operated fully in a dearer market.
Quality was mixed with a large proportion of the yarding lacking finish and weight.
The handful of vealers suited to butchers sold up to eight cents dearer.
Yearling steers and heifers to the trade sold mostly around five cents to 15 cents dearer with fewer grain assisted lines on offer.
Feeder cattle were keenly sought after lifting up to 20 cents.
Grown steers and bullocks improved 15 cents to 20 cents for most and up to 30 cents on some isolated sales.
Heavy weight vealers to butchers sold from 316 cents to 336 cents.
Yearling trade steers made between 314 cents and 337 cents.
Yearling heifers to the trade sold between 275 cents and 332 cents.
