Results well worth the wait

By Paul Dunlop
THE wait is over for VCE students and local schools are celebrating some outstanding results.
Schools in the PakenhamBerwick area have praised the efforts of the year 12 students with many local scholars scoring in the high 90s.
Pakenham’s Beaconhills College dux Jayde Kirchert scored 98.85 while Laura Rowe’s score of 97.85 included a perfect score of 50 in media.
Head of campus Jill Wilson said the top students this year had a background in arts or systems and technology.
“The college believes these results are a celebration of the diversity and combination of subjects taken by these two students,” Mrs Wilson said.
Beaconhills also scored strong results in mathematics, science and information technology and its bestever results in French.
Other top students were Stephen Martin (97.75), Dale Buckland (97.40) and Ila Karvie (96.75).
All of the school’s 149 Year 12 students satisfactorily completed their VCE, Mrs Wilson said.
Tynong’s St Thomas Aquinas College saw five of the school’s seven Year 12 students achieve ENTER scores of 80 or above.
VCE coordinator Kevin Ryan said the results were very pleasing for a small school with limited resources.
“Our year 12s six girls and one boy have worked very hard this year and their efforts have been well worthwhile,” Mr Ryan said.
Kooweerup Secondary College principal Geoff Pledge congratulated the school’s VCE students on their results.
Highlights included scholarships for dux Ruby Collins from Kids Under Cover and Belinda Dalziel from Melbourne University’s McMillan campus.
