Mixed quality sees firm market

THERE were approximately 400 export and 400 young cattle penned representing a decrease of 110 head week-on-week at the Victorian Livestock Exchange.
There was a full field of buyers present and operating in a firm market which was a little cheaper in places.
Quality was a little more mixed than the previous sale with a few more secondary cattle offered.
A much more limited selection of vealers suited to butcher orders sold to firm demand with averages a little easier.
Yearling cattle to the trade sold firm for most with some medium weight steers a little dearer.
Grown steers eased 10 cents per kilogram while the bullocks sold firm.
Heavy weight Friesian manufacturing steers sold firm while the crossbred portion slipped 14 cents.
Heavy weight vealers suited to butchers sold from 368 cents to 412 cents.
Yearling trade steers made between 360 cents and 403 cents.
Yearling heifers to the trade sold between 338 cents and 385 cents. There were a few more steers purchased to feed on this week from 320 cents to 403 cents.
Grown steers made from 320 cents to 356 cents.
Bullocks sold from 325 cents to 352 cents. Heavy weight Friesian manufacturing steers made between 265 cents and 296 cents with the crossbred portion between 297 cents and 332 cents.
The VLE draw for the week commencing Monday 17 October is: 1, Elders; 2, Landmark; 3, Alex Scott and Staff; 4, Everitt, Seeley and Bennetts; 5, Rodwells; 6, SEJ; 7, Nathan Gibbon Livestock.
