Quality good in a mixed market

There were approximately 700 export and 800 young cattle penned representing an increase of 300 head week-on-week at Pakenham’s Victorian Livestock Exchange this week.
Most of the usual buying group was present and operating in a mixed market.
Quality was very good with a great line-up of trade and export cattle on offer.
The 400 vealers sold to mixed results with the steers easing up to 10 cents while most heifers sold at firm prices or even a little dearer on some sales.
A limited selection of yearling trade steers gained a few cents.
Yearling heifers to the trade sold mostly firm to nine cents per kilogram cheaper for the lighter weight lines.
Grown steers and bullocks sold from firm to four cents dearer for a larger and very good quality run.
Heavy weight crossbred manufacturing steers improved four cents while the Friesian portion eased five cents.
Heavy weight vealers to butchers sold from 315 cents to 362 cents.
Yearling trade steers made between 313 cents and 348 cents.

Feeder steers made from 306 cents to 358 cents.
Grown steers sold from 303 cents to 339 cents.
Bullocks made between 295 cents and 336 cents.
Heavyweight grown heifers sold between 252 cents and 320 cents.
