Larger yard sees prices trimmed

Baw Baw Livestock Exchange market report for 18 and 19 January 2017.
The Wednesday fat sale saw 412 head while the Thursday cow sale saw 56 bulls and 364 cows.
There was a yarding of 412 head, up 40 on last week, for the fat sale and prices were a shade cheaper on the previous sale for most categories.
Heifer and steer numbers still remain low and good vealers sold well.
Last week’s yard average was lower on the previous sale at 314.3 cents per kilo.
A total of 34 heifers made to 293 cents, 25 steers made to 328 cents and 298 veal made to 370.2 cents, back nine cents, and averaged 335.6 cents, up one cent.
On Thursday the bull and cow sale saw good competition.
Fifty six bulls topped at 278.6 cents, back 24 cents. They averaged 238 cents with a lot of dairy bulls which brought the average back 20 cents on last week.
There were also 364 cows yarded with the top selling to 297.2 cents, which was back three cents and the average was back three cents on the previous week at 219.6 cents, with the yard average back seven cents at 222.9 cents.

The draw for 25 and 26 January is: 1. SEJ, 2 Landmark, 3 Elders, 4 NGL, 5 Scotts.
