Plain market sees an increase

There were approximately 600 export and 550 young cattle penned representing an increase of 85 head week-on-week at Pakenham’s Victorian Livestock Exchange.
Most of the usual buying group was present and operating in a mostly dearer market.
Quality was mixed with limited numbers of prime cattle and secondary and plainer lots throughout. Vealers sold generally firm with the odd dearer sale for better quality.
Yearling cattle to the trade sold 10 cents to 15 cents per kilogram.
There was a little less competition for feeder cattle with a regular buyer of these grades absent however they were only a little cheaper on some sales.
Grown steers and bullocks improved around 10 cents for most and more on some isolated sales.
Heavy weight grown heifers and manufacturing steers gained 10 cents, vealers suited to butchers sold from 334 cents to 370 cents, yearling trade steers made between 317 cents and 346 cents, and yearling heifers to the trade sold between 300 cents and 352 cents.
Feeder steers made from 292 cents to 350 cents, grown steers sold from 293 cents to 336 cents, bullocks made between 302 cents and 327 cents and heavy weight grown heifers sold between 275 cents and 315 cents while heavy weight crossbred manufacturing steers made from 275 cents to 315 cents with a few of pens of Friesians from 244 cents to 267 cents.
