Holiday squeezes market

There were approximately 330 export and 250 young cattle penned at the Victorian Livestock Exchange representing a decrease of 120 head from the sale of a fortnight ago with supply once again affected by the following public holiday.
The usual buying group was present and operating in a dearer market.
Quality was limited with secondary cattle throughout and demand was strong from feeders and re-stockers for these lots.
The limited selection of vealers sold up to 20 cents dearer.
Yearling cattle improved a few cents with few suited to the trade.
Grown steers and bullocks lifted five cents to six cents with stronger feedlot enquiry for grown steers, especially black lots.
Heavy weight grown heifers and cows sold firm.
Vealers to butchers sold from 340 cents to 393 cents, yearling trade steers made between 340 cents and 360 cents, yearling heifers to the trade sold between 306 cents and 353 cents and feeder steers made from 308 cents to 364 cents.
Grown steers sold from 308 cents to 337 cents, bullocks made between 306 cents and 321 cents, heavy weight grown heifers sold between 270 cents and 320 cents and a handful of heavy weight cows made from 222 cents to 270 cents.
