School on track for life

SCHOOL children have temporarily put aside schoolbooks for raffle books in a fund raising effort to support cancer research.
Students, staff and families from Berwick Secondary, Harkaway Primary, Cockatoo Primary, Hillsmeade Primary, and Narre Warren North Primary schools are participating in the Casey Cardinia Relay for Life.
Their teams will be on the track at Akoonah Park, Berwick, in a relay style walk or run challenge to keep their baton moving around the track for 24 hours on Friday 2 and Saturday, 3 March.
Harkaway Primary School integration aide Niki Wills put together a team of teachers, students and families including their principal (principal of the year) Fred Hess to be part of the event.
Several families in the school community have been affected by cancer.
Mrs Wills said it was good for children to feel they were doing something practical to help friends and teachers who have been affected by cancer. “We have been selling purple charity wristbands which have been extremely popular with the students,” she said. The school will hold an art show in which parents purchase a canvas for their child to decorate and then have the opportunity to buy the finished artwork.
People wanting to register a team in the Casey Cardinia Relay for Life should call 1300 656 585. or visit www.relayforlife.org.au.

“The team has developed innovative new fundraising ideas as well as using some of the tried and tested methods such as chocolate drives, sausage sizzles and a raffle.
