Numbers and quality slip

Numbers declined by 140 head last Wednesday at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange’s Fat Sale.
A slight slip in quality resulted in prices easing in all categories except steers, with feedlots and restockers prominent in both the steer and vealer pens.
Heifers averaged marginally heavier this week but demand was easier forcing the per head price back $100.
At the end of the day the yard average slipped 12 cents to 309 cents.
Eight bullocks made to 318.2 cents and averaged 297.7 cents, thirty heifers made to 320 cents, back 18 cents, and averaged 294.2 cents, back 11 cents, 31 steers made to 331.2 cents, back 24 cents, and averaged 293.9 cents, up seven cents.
One hundred and sixty six veal made to 390.2 cents, up three cents, and averaged 323.2 cents, back 11 cents.
There was an improvement in cow prices on Thursday with 278 cows topping at 271.2 cents, and averaging 12 cents up at 214.8 cents.
Good heavy beef and dairy cows sold to strong demand. Also yarded were 20 bulls making to 317.6 cents, back nine cents and averaging six cents, back at 261.1 cents, with this week’s yard average easing 11 cents to 219.7 cents.
The draw for 5 and 6 July is: 1 Scotts, 2 Landmark, 3 Elders, 4 Gibbon, 5 SEJ.
