Worthy event well worth a look this weekend

THIS weekend hundreds of people will take part in one of the world’s most worthwhile fundraisers, the Relay for Life.
But a highlight of the 24hour relay to be held at Akoonah Park Berwick on Friday and Saturday has to be the first lap when cancer survivors step out, many with their carers, in a lap of honour.
Cancer survivors are welcome to take part, whether they are a member of a Relay For Life team or not and will wear a red sash during the lap of honour.
This begins just before 6pm on Friday as part of the opening ceremony.
Then by dusk the relay will have settled into a pattern as fundraisers work away their fundraising laps and also join in the candlelight ceremony.
The lights from candlelit paper bags will begin to twinkle and create a surreal atmosphere in the bags that carry written messages from loved ones and remind us of people who lost the battle.
The twinkling lights also send a message of hope for those still in the great battle against a ruthless foe.
The relay and those people in the relay provide hope and a chance for souls faced with the dreaded disease because the money raised will go toward researching a cure for cancer.
The relay is conducted from 6pm Friday to 6pm the next day.
This is good work they do and it is worthy of support with a visit some time during the event.
Further information is available from Deborah Ditchburn on 0412 850 257.
