Market follows downward state trend

There were only 139 head last Wednesday for the fat sale at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange, with all categories recording a drop in numbers, a trend that has been repeated across the state.
Competition in the better pens is still firm to strong, the lighter pens tend to lose some traction which in turn pulls the averages back.
The outcome for this week was a slip of 12 cents for the yard average to 265.6 cents.
Two bullocks made to 278.2 cents and averaged 269 cents, nine heifers made to 306.2 cents, up 21 cents, and averaged 267.6 cents, up 25 cents,
Eighteen steers made to 289.2 cents, up two cents, and averaged 256 cents, up eight cents, 110 veal made to 275.2 cents, up 12 cents, and averaged 275.1 cents, back 16 cents.
The bull sale on Thursday was a bit smaller with 15 penned.
The top for the week was 287.2 cents, firm on last week, and the bull average was up 13 cents to 237.9 cents with some good bodied bulls on offer.
Also penned during the week were 365 cows and although the top was easier at 231.2 cents, the cow average rose 10 cents to 184.9 cents as quality was improved on recent sales.
