A bonus race meeting

PAKENHAM Racing Club has picked up another race meeting from Geelong, following ongoing track issues at the club.
The full eight-card meeting will be run at Pakenham on Friday 22 May.
Geelong is expected to be closed to racing until April 2010, but Pakenham’s racing manager Michael Hodge said his club might not always be able to pick up the slack.
“We have our existing program, we have our own training commitments and we have a situation where we are coming into winter and the regrowth of our track completely slows down,” he said. “Our ability to take future race meetings will be dependent on all those things and whether the track will be able to handle all of that traffic and work.”
But for now the club’s focus turns to this Saturday, when it hosts its annual Family Day.
Hodge said everything was on track for another good meeting.
“The nominations are as big as I’ve ever seen and we hope it all goes well for a great day’s racing, and we encourage as many people as possible to get down there and support the day.”
