Woman injured in highway pileup

A WOMAN was airlifted to The Alfred after a car crash involving five cars and a truck in Pakenham on Thursday.
It was one of three serious incidents along Princes Highway in the last week.
At the Beaconsfield turnoff yesterday (Tuesday), three people were taken to hospital after a twocar collision.
Two women and a boy were said by police to have suffered minor injuries in the crash.
Another car ran off the highway near Nar Nar Goon on Friday. It is believed a blown tyre may have caused the motorist to lose control.
The crash in Pakenham happened about 3.30pm on the Princes Highway, between Army Road and Racecourse Road.
The woman had to be cut from her car.
Rescuers removed the roof of the badly damaged sedan to free her.
Police said the woman was taken to hospital by helicopter in a serious but stable condition.
Traffic was diverted for almost two hours while emergency services units cleared the scene.
Pakenham Road Rescue Unit, police, ambulance and CFA attended the incident, which drew a large crowd of onlookers from nearby homes.
