Bad day for Garfield

IT was a bad day for Garfield Bowls Club’s divisiontwo team in pennant on Saturday, going down to Morwell 72106 and not winning a rink.
Scores were: Stephen Whyte, Stephen Bassed, Ray Biffin and Tom Cleary lost to J Bannister 20 to 21.
Jim Oliver, Bob Lamport, Shane Oliver and Wayne Gunton lost to J. Smith 22 to 27.
Les Pumphrey, Hank Wouters, Colin Carmichael, and Frank Prins lost to S. Glossop 19 to 25.
Colin Mills, Lyn Oliver, Stu Robertson and Bill Charles lost to P. Jonas 11 to 33.

Garfield (2) had a strong win against ladder leaders, Warragul (4), winning both rinks and finishing 23 shots up on the day.
Bob Hope’s rink was in control all day, but the opposition closed fast, winning six of the last seven ends to give Bob’s team a oneshot win.
Scores were: Bob Hope, Laurence Wright, Pat Marriott and Bill Doherty defeated D Grogan 15 to 14.
Alex Mentiplay’s team had a day out, winning by 22 shots. Scores were Alex Mentiplay, Geoff Gaskell, Reg Mattingley and Matthew Smith defeated J. Goodridge 28 to six.
Garfield (3) lost a tight game against Longwarry by two shots, one shot on each rink.
Gordon Beer, Don Knight, Barrie Smith and Wes Goodman lost to P. Smethurst 18 to 19.
Les Shatwell, Keith Sainsbery, John Rose and Adrian Helmuth lost to G. Mitchell 21 to 22.

Tuesday pennant saw a Garfield’s divisionthree team have a great win over Traralgon RSL winning two of the three rinks and with an overall score of 85 to 37.
Scores were: Rose Shaw, Joan Garvey, Bev Sainsbery and Fay Carmichael defeated B McLean 31 to 11.
Eleanor Lee, Judy Prentice, Pat Marriott and Keith Sainsbery defeated E. Muir 34 to five.
Lyn Oliver, Gordon Beer, Maureen Lamport and W. Burgess lost to M. McCourt 20 to 21.
Saturday ladies pennant was cancelled due to heat and the smoke from the bushfires.
It is the club’s Christmas function on Friday, 15 December and those planning to attend are asked to put their names down to help the caterers.
