STUDENTS at Pakenham Consolidated School will start their day full of energy next term with a daily breakfast club setup to insure all children eat the most important meal of the day.
Cereal, toast and fruit will be on the menu in an initiative designed to give students the best opportunity to learn from the first bell.
Pakenham police officers, Red Cross members and Connection Counselling volunteers have all offered their assistance to the program and will make breakfast for the students each morning.
Assistant principal Gene Carlomagno said the school’s Student Management Committee had focused the program on children who don’t have time to eat breakfast at home.
“We have an increasing amount of students who are getting themselves organised for school everyday and unfortunately they don’t always get time to have something to eat before they leave for school,” Mr Carlomagno said.
Various studies have shown that eating breakfast can improve concentration skills and assist with an overall balanced diet.
Pakenham police Senior Constable Helen Marsham is helping the breakfast club and said it was a great opportunity to get involved in the school community.
“A couple of officers from this station will be helping serve breakfast each morning and we think it is a great program for the students,” Snr Const Marsham said.
