LANG Lang Primary School students are enjoying the latest learning technology, thanks to a $33,000 donation from the Bendigo Bank.
The school has purchased 40 new computers and the school’s 192 students will put them to good use in several different learning environments.
The small student population has not stopped the wider business community supporting the school with sponsorship from the ANZ and Commonwealth Banks as well as Holden, Bunnings, Telstra, Cardinia Shire and Target.
The district involvement stems from the introduction of the Lang Lang Primary School Community Links Program that was successfully introduced fives years ago.
Assistant principal Michael Smythe initiated the program and said the students and the school had benefited greatly since it was introduced.
“While we initially were looking at getting some extra funds for the school, the program has also brought in a lot of expertise and strong relationships with other educational institutions, while involving the students in some interesting activities and programs,” he said.
The school has also been able to obtain some used furniture from Monash University and Holmesglen TAFE for use in the classroom.
Mr Smythe said another great program at the school was the creation of an international teaching program – resulting in teachers in training from Japan, USA and Sweden visiting the school and exposing the children to the wider world.
“The Swedish experience has led to a closer relationship with Monash University and the two educational facilities are looking at the possibilities of developing a mentoring partnership,” he said.
