Cobra bats fail to strike

A RUN chase of 293 proved too much for Merinda Park’s Agrade team, losing by 76 runs to Cardinia on Saturday
The Cobras got off to a good start with new opener John Atwell making 47 and Brett Whittingham’s return to form with 70.
At one stage the Cobras were looking as a good chance with the score at 2/166, however their game fell apart, losing 8/50 and the match.
Jess Mathers was impressive with the bat making 45 and Craig Boswell 18.

B GRADE

The Cobras battled hard against Cardinia on the second day of play on Saturday with the hosts reaching 10/190 when stumps were drawn.
The standout bowler was junior, Jarrod Armitage with 3/37 from 11 overs. Anthony Clarke (2/28), Shaun Hughes (2/13) and Pat Graham (2/30) were the best of the bowlers.
Shaun Hughes and James LaughlinGlen took some sharp catches, however some easier chances when down costing the Cobras in the end.

D GRADE

This will be seen as the one that got away for the Cobras.
Chasing KilcundaBass’ total of 182, the Cobras fell in a hole with only John Cuthbertson with 33 and Darren Smith, 26, doing well in the top order.
The Cobras only got close because of 47 from Grant Pearson, losing in the end by 18 runs.

E GRADE

Declaring at 7/185, the Cobras, with a lead of 81, had a hard time taking wickets to gain an outright victory.
The Gembrook team, scoring 242, with Robert Strang again bowling well to take 4/43. Captain Paul Humphrey took 2/20 and Jace Field 2/85.
Batting again, the Cobras were in trouble at 6/77 by stumps.
Ken Rickard scored 16 and Stan Pongracic and Craig Glassborow 14.

F GRADE

Playing Upper Beaconsfield, the Cobras ran through the batting line up to bowl the hosts out for 49.
In his six overs, Scott Kunziak picked up 5/17, Nathan Beaver 2/19 with Robert Clarke and Marcus Beaver a wicket each.
Batting was also a struggle for the Cobras, scoring 98 all out. Jeff Gillespie was 20, Marcus Beaver 18 not out and Nathan Beaver 10.

UNDER 17

The Cobras had a good win over Lang Lang by 51 runs.
Defending 165, the Cobras bowled Lang Lang out for 114 with James LaughlinGlen taking 3/17, Nathan Beaver 2/28 and Andrew Martin 1/10. Batting a second time, the Cobras were 3/24 at stumps with Paul Boland on 14 not out.

UNDER 15 WHITE

Chasing 124 against Tooradin, the Cobras just fell short, scoring 9/108.
Jarrod Armitage with 31 not out, David Spencer 19 and Michael Blackburn 16 all did well with the bat.

UNDER 15 RED

Chasing Clyde’s score of 3/184, the Cobras were all out for 116. Daniel McCalman was the star, scoring 49 not out with Glen Salter making 14 and Stuart Martin five.

UNDER 13

The Cobras made 5/171 against Pakenham last week with Josh Prudden making 27 retired, Simon Spencer 25 retired, Dylan Cuthbertson 25 retired and Sanan Wimalagunaratna 25 retired.
The Cobras then bowled Pakenham out for 95 with Ryan Cracknell taking 3/5, Simon Spencer 2/11 and Dylan Cuthbertson 2/12.
Pakenham had another hit to finish the day’s play on 5/26 with Dylan Cuthbertson taking 2/3, Josh Prudden 1/0 and Simon Spencer 1/7.

UNDER 11

Playing Devon Meadows Red team, the Cobras did well with four taking wickets.
Blake Glassborow and Kyle Salter took their first wickets of the season. James Jordan and Lachlan Dalton took their first wickets in competitive cricket with James Jordan taking two.
Good fielding by Caleb Boswell included a runout when he threw to James Jordan.
Batting, several players made their first runs in competitive cricket, including Dylan Clancy, Lachlan Dalton and Benjamin Dalton.

CLUB NOTES

Melbourne Cup Day function will be held at Donnelly Reserve from 11am on Tuesday, 7 November.
Food supplied and drinks at bar prices. Entry is $5 with children and social members free.
