Cobras strike back

AFTER losing both openers for ducks, Merinda Park’s A-grade side fought back to score 171 against Tooradin on Saturday.
The Cobras got off to a poor start to be 3/9 early in the day’s play.
Captain Gary Davidson and coach Brett Armitage resurrected the innings with a 67-run fourth-wicket partnership, scoring 59 and 42 respectively.
Some good late-order batting from Darren Morrow with 22 and Shannon Mathers with 17, helped get the score to 171 in 74 overs.
Tooradin went into bat and was 0/4 at stumps.

B GRADE

Also playing Tooradin, the Cobras struggled to get wickets early on.
Then with the score on 0/2, the Cobras picked up 5/26 to have the visitors in trouble.
Tooradin then recovered to be 7/199 at stumps.
Main wicket taker was leg-spinner Scott Edwards with 2/47 from 12 overs. Nic Reed picked up 1/13 from eight overs and Dustin Peebles 1/28 from 15 overs.

C GRADE

It was another disappointing batting display by the Cobras against Devon Meadows.
After being 0/49 and then 2/75, the Cobras lost 5/18 and were bowled out for 126.
Russell Dunn continued his good form with 34 and opening partner Shane Dalton with 22.
Steve Tobin also played well for his 20.
The Cobras picked up two late wickets in the final 11 overs to have Devon Meadows 2/27 with a wicket each to Nathan Beaver and James Laughlin-Glen.

D GRADE

Playing Nyora at home, the Cobras bowled the hosts out for 196 thanks to 3/21 from Grant Pearson in eight overs and 3/46 in 10 overs from Pat Graham.
Peter Shore, Gordon Lewis, Tony Clarke and Wayne Bruce all picked up a wicket each.
However, disaster struck the Cobras in the final overs to be 2/1 at stumps.

E GRADE

It was an historic match for the Cobras, with the Red team playing the White team.
The White team had the early break, taking three wickets.
Red team captain Tim Inglis got on top of the attack with 81. Steve Shepherdson made 57 and Anthony Burr 20. Matt Grayson picked up 2/25 from four overs, with Mark Beecham taking 2/26 from 14 overs and Michael Theodoridis picking up 2/30 from 12.2 overs.
At stumps the White team was 0/4.

F GRADE

The Cobras had a big win after restricting Beaconsfield to 9/110, then amassing 4/174 from 35 overs.
Marcus Beaver picked up 3/19 from six overs, Phil Keirnan 2/18 from five overs and Andrew Hathaway with 1/9 from six overs.
Captain Phil Keirnan was the star with the bat making 50 retired. Andrew Hathaway made 38, Jeff Gillespie 28 and Jace Field 14 not out.

UNDER 16

Playing Tooradin, the Cobras restricted the visitors to 7/127 from 40 overs.
Josjua Colomer was the pick of the bowlers with 2/19 from four overs, Michael Theodoridis with 2/20 from eight overs and Andrew Martin with 1/12 from five overs.

UNDER 14 WHITE

Playing Lang Lang, the Cobras bowled their host out for 100 in only 28 overs.
Codey Allan picked up 2/8 from four overs, Andrew Hook 2/11 from five overs, Tim Shepherdson with 2/19 from five overs and a wicket each to Glen Salter (1/13), Brad Twyford (1/16) and Corbin Barrenger (1/3).
At stumps the Cobras 4/18 from 7 overs with Andrew Hook making six.

UNDER 14 RED

Playing Devon Meadows, the Cobras batted first and declared on 7/140 after 27 overs.
Jarrod Armitage retired on 30, Stuart Martin 22, Matt Grayson 19 not out, Daniel McCalman 19 and Jason Pongracic with 12.
In the 10 overs that remained in the day’s play, the Cobras picked up 5/19 with Jarrod Armitage taking 2/7 from three overs, Stuart Martin with 1/3 from two overs and Anthony Burr with 1/5 from three overs.
There was also a run out by Chris Stilo to Jamie Fox.

UNDER 12

The two Cobra teams played each other in a good contest with the Red team making 10/129.
Josh Prudden scored 20 retired, as did Dylan Cuthbertson, with Rodney Reed scoring 13.
The best of the bowlers for the White team was Caleb Boswell with 4/3 from four overs, Ashleigh Little with 4/5 from three overs and Mitchell Heggie with 2/9 from two overs.

TWENTY FIVE-25 FUNDRAISER

On Sunday the Cobras had a fundraiser in aid of the players injured in an assault last December.
It was a great day with the WGCA Country Week side playing the Merinda Park All Stars.
The Merinda Park All Stars scored 9/204 from 25 overs with the WGCA side falling short by 30 runs making 8/174 from its 25 overs.
Merinda Park Cricket Club thanked all who contributed including the WGCA players and the Merinda Park All Stars team.
