Danny shines with 73

DANNY Shine has taken an eightshot lead in Drouin Golf Club’s championships after a superb 73 off the stick in the second round on Saturday.
Many of the 119 players who teed off found the conditions heavy going.
Danny (handicap four) also won the Agrade day event with a 69 nett.
Runnerup in A grade was Clint Hickford 71, followed by Darren Adams 72, Brad Bennett 73 and Rod Hammond 73.
In B grade, Paul Duivenvoorden (16) showed great form with a nett 67. His score of 83 off the stick propelled him to a fourshot lead in the Bgrade championship.
Runnerup in the Bgrade day event was Doug Scott with 73 on a countback from Peter Daniel, Jeff Richardson and Stuart Williams.
In C grade, Ray Cropley (23) won a threeway countback with nett 75 from Henk Otterspoor and Wayne English. Ray and Wayne are tied for the lead in the Cgrade championship.
Downtheline balls went to 74 and the CCR was 74.

There is a seeded draw for this Saturday for the top four players in each grade.

A grade, 11am: Danny Shine 149, Shane Dwyer 157, Ryan Radford 157, Brad Bennett 158.
B grade, 11.10am: Paul Duivendoorden 172, Jeff Richardson 176, Eric Robbins 176, Sturt Williams 176.
C grade, 11.20am: Ray Cropley 193, Wayne English 193, Rick Fenby 202, Trevor Farrelly 203.
Members are encouraged to attend the personations at about 5pm and free finger food will be provided.

WEDNESDAY RESULTS

The midweek Stableford competition was contested by just 53 players, enough for just two grades.
Vin Bibby (19) enjoyed his status as an Agrade player, winning with a fine score of +3. Lindsay Robinson was runner up with 1.
Charlie Hardy, Ian Dorsie, Shane Dwyer and Laurie Pyle all returned 2.
John Gardiner (32) also had a positive round with +2, good enough to win B grade from runnerup Jim McCormack square. Rick Radeticchio was next on 3.
Balls went down to 2 and the CCR was 74.

THURSDAY RESULTS

A good field of 46 players contested the seniors’ ninehole event.
Bob Ramage and Graham Dorling tied in the men’s division with 20 points each. Next was Garth Quenault 19 and Mike Roberts 18.
Jill Brenchley won the ladies with 17 from Irene Morgan 16, Audrey Smethurst 16 and Ann Roberts 15.

LADIES

Although almost being blown away with the wild weather last Tuesday, the Drouin women golfers struggled through a stroke event for the monthly medal. The CCR was 76 nett.
Irene Morgan and Nerida Hammond both had a winning score of 76 nett and will have a play off for the medal on Tuesday, 23 May.
The Agrade runnerup was Di Sullivan with 82 nett and the Bgrade runnerup was Joyce Pierrehumbert with 77 nett.
Nearest the pin on the 19th was Di Sullivan and no one claimed it on the 14th.
Ann Roberts won the propin.
Downtheline balls went to Ann Roberts 81 nett and Mary Tymensen and Margaret Purcell both on 83 nett.

PENNANT RESULTS

Divisionone pennant team defeated Garfield 6/1.
Division two had a bye and division three defeated Warragul 3/2.

SENIORS’ RESULTS

Jill Brenchley won the ninehole seniors’ competition with 17 points.
The runnersup were Irene Morgan 16 points, Audrey Smethurst 16 points and Ann Roberts 15 points.

COMING EVENTS

This week is the Doris Chambers qualifying event, foursomes Stableford and next week, 23 May, will be stroke, the third round of the silver spoon.
