Debut win for Coates

IN his first golf competition as an Agrade player, Matt Coates scored 45 points to be the best score home on Tuesday, 23 January on the Old Course at Beaconhills.
Jack Weir was the Bgrade winner on a countback with 38 points.
On Thursday, with the field size nearly 100, there were three grades.
A and Bgrade winners both scored 41 points, with Stuart Mills winning Agrade on a countback and Doug Rowe winning Bgrade.
Ross Millard was the Cgrade winner with 42 points.
In the Australia Day competition, 43 points were scored by both Gary Johnson and Brian McPhie to win them A and Bgrades respectively.
Ambrose fours took to the Old Course on Saturday.
As always, there was only a fraction of a shot in the final result.
David Brook, Wayne Hassall, Kev Candy and Denis Smith combined well to shoot 62 off the stick, which gave them a nett result of 52 7/8.
Runnersup Marc Weiner, Paul Blundell, Jason Banes and Wayne Davey scored 60 gross, but their handicap left them with a nett 53 3/8.
Thomas Willemsen was the junior ninehole competition winner, with nett 40.
Sunday’s competition, once again on the Old Course, was a par competition with some high scoring, but none higher than Barry Mollison’s +8,, which won him the Agrade trophy.
Jim Wilson scored +6 to secure Bgrade.
Next week is the first round of the club championships at Beaconhills, and the club wished all players who ahd entered good luck.
