Drouin trio does it easy

SATURDAY saw 38 teams compete in the threeperson Ambrose event at Drouin Golf Club with scores low and conditions good.
Winners were Trevor Allan, Jake Allan and Steve Davey, gross 67, nett 58 1/3. Runnersup: Matt Long, Darren Bailey and Jock Morrison, 60 1/6 on countback from Vince Megnone, Louie Stinosa and Derrick Arnolda. Next: Jeff Richardson, Garry Richardson and Craig McLeod 61, Phil Dignan, Glen Dignan and Ken Cooper 61 1/6. The first two teams go on to play at Sandhurst on 25 October for a chance to qualify for the national final in Queensland.
Fortytwo players competed in the overflow Stableford event on Saturday, enough for just one grade. Tony Piner (13) put the misery of his “Losing Saints” behind him to win with 37 points. He won on a countback from Geoff Closter. Laurie Harris was next with 34. Balls went down to 33 on a countback.
Rain reduced Wednesday’s field to just 13 players. Leon Cook (3) was not put off his game and fired 71 off the stick to win comfortably with 40 points.
A field of 42 players competed in the senior ninehole comp on Thursday. Les Madden and Jack Gough tied in the men’s section with 19 points each. Pam Pratt won the ladies with 16 from Audrey Smethurst 15.
This Saturday is a Stableford round at Drouin. On Sunday Drouin will host the men’s 36hole West Gippsland Singles Championship.
