Eagles ‘blown away’

BEACONSFIELD seniors failed to recover from a strong first quarter by Keysborough, going down by 62 points on Saturday.
The Eagles found themselves defending grimly against the wind in the first quarter and the persistent Burras built up a substantial 32point lead with strong, purposeful football.
Beaconsfield turned the tables in the second quarter in general play, but managed only two goals from ten scoring shots to be 20 points in arrears at the long break.
Chris Kelf was lionhearted in the ruck, while Daniel Mislicki and Robbie Kemperman made their presence felt.
After the interval, Keysborough, with the aid of the breeze, set about consolidating its halftime lead and steered through five goals to one to have the game in its keeping with a 50point lead at threequarter time.
Clint Evans and Justin Duffy were solid contributors, while 2005 bestandfairest Kris Fletcher gathered possessions at will.
Looking to salvage something from the game, the Eagles attacked throughout the final quarter, but again were astray with their kicking.
Scores: Beaconsfield 7.19.61 lost to Keysborough 18.15.123.
Goals: Daniel Mislicki 2, Bryce Tonks, Daniel Charles, Ash Drake, Craig Jackson, Justin Duffy 1.
Best: Justin Duffy, Kris Fletcher, Robbie Kemperman, Clint Evans, Daniel Charles.

RESERVES

The Eagles wasted early chances to be 10 points down at quarter time. A much better effort in the second term saw a reversal of fortunes, as Beaconsfield added five goals to two for a sixpoint buffer at halftime.
In what turned out to be a matchwinning third quarter, the Eagles added two majors against the strengthening breeze, while the Burra could only manage two points.
The last quarter was a tough, torrid affair with Keysborough throwing everything at the young Eagles, drawing level inside the last minute.
However Beaconsfield found enough for one final effort, resulting in a behind that decided the game.
Scores: Beaconsfield 10.12.72 d Keysborough 10.11.71.
Goals: Steve Munday 3, Ryan Jolliffe 3, Ash Salter 2, Adrian Jolliffe, Jarrod Kemperman 1.
Best: Daniel Clarke, Jarrod Kemperman, Steve Munday, James Brown, Paul Rutter, Ryan Price.

UNDER 18

Encouraged by their first up win over Doveton, the young Eagles were hoping to put two in a row together.
Losing the toss, the team defended against a spirited Keysborough that kicked the first two goals with four or five players in great form early.
Beaconsfield steadied and gained the upper hand at the first siren. Accurate kicking was all that kept the young Burra outfit in the game after that with the Eagles running out comfortable winners.
Scores: Beaconsfield 18.17.125 d Keysborough 5.0.30
Goals: Joel Gibson 5, Jarrad Boumann 2, Luke Kowalski 2, Jessie Linkins 2, John Noonan, Reece Pater, Nick Smith, Ji Veltmeyer, Daniel Calteri, Mark Griffiths, Aaron Gwozdziewski 1.
Best: Joel Gibson, Jessie Linkins, John Noonan, Nick Smith, Ryan Olsson.

UNDER18 COLTS

Beaconsfield started the season with a 39point win over Frankston YCW.
After a slow start with Beaconsfield kicking into the wind, the team had the best of the play in the last three quarters.
The second and third quarters were very strong and Beaconsfield showed its superior fitness as the game progressed.
Cley Bertoncello kicked five goals in a great display up forward, while Mark Rooke showed excellent leadership throughout the game.
Scores: Beaconsfield 13.6.84 d Frankston YCW 6.9.45.
Goals: Cley Bertoncello 5, Dale Robertson 2, Tom Beech, Josh Carell, Matt Hahnel, Ryan Pavitt, Tom Randle 1.
