TOORADIN is set for exciting finals’ series with four teams aiming for flags.
After an exciting round on Saturday, A and E grades secured outright victories, while the under16 and 14 teams made the finals.
B grade was gallant in defeat and just missed the finals.
A GRADE
In an exciting finish, Tooradin defeated Nar Nar Goon outright by four wickets.
Tooradin batted aggressively in the first innings and declared at 3/213.
Good scores came from Aaron Bickery (39), Brenton Adams (72 not out) and Chris Hughes (58 not out).
Adams and Hughes had a partnership of 153.
Nar Nar Goon unleashed some power hitting to race to 2/109 and declared.
Tooradin started the chase and at 2/39 looked shaky.
However a whirlwind 40 from Dave Freeman put Tooradin within range and it got home with four wickets in hand.
B GRADE
Chasing 170 to win, Tooradin fell 25 runs short.
Excellent knocks came from Jarrad Thompsons (34), Grant Kernot (31), Gus Gray (24) and Dale Bethune (16).
E GRADE
Day one finished with Tooradin 0/62, having passed Beaconsfield’s 59 all out.
Quick runs were needed and Peter Wilson (56) and Dene North (45) scored quickly, putting on 44 in eight overs.
Andrew Sparkles made 54 not out in only eight overs and was ably supported by Kane Watham (32).
The Gulls declared at 3/202, giving them a lead of 143.
Wickets fell steadily with assistance coming from all quarters.
Aaron Maddern took a fine catch and was involved in two runouts.
Darren Mautel bowled well with 1/31 from 18.
Rob Eakins took 2/32, but the glory figures were from John Dutton taking 4/27 in 12 overs.
Tooradin took the final wicket to win by an innings and 20 runs, taking it into the finals.
UNDER 16
Tooradin travelled to KilcundaBass and failed by three runs.
The Seagulls were dismissed for 111 with only Sean Baker (24), Corey Leslie (19 not out), Michael Ralph (17), James Dickenson (12) and Sean Wilson (13) getting starts.
UNDER 14
Tooradin took a wicket in the first over in defence of its 112.
With a few difficult chances going down and three or four just wide of fieldsmen, it was not Tooradin’s day as Clyde made the required runs in the 37th over.
UNDER 12
Chasing 192 to win it was always going to be a tough assignment, but Tooradin started brilliantly, reaching 1/58 after 10 overs.
Opening batsman Ryan Eaton and Khyle Thomson both retired.
A few quick wickets saw Merinda Park get back into the match, reducing Tooradin to 6/92 off 20 overs.
Quick runs were needed and Alex Dunn compiled a wellmade 19.
Danielle Ferarri and Khyle Thomson together and smashed their way towards victory before Danielle was out.
Ryan Eaton (35) was the last man out, but not before seeing Tooradin to victory finishing on 9/209.
In an excellent batting display Khyle finished 81 not out and showed he has a great future at the club.
Tooradin won by 18 runs.
CLUB NOTES
The presentation and awards for the under 12s and 14s will be held at the Tooradin Sports Club on Wednesday, 5 April at 7pm.
Parents are especially invited to attend.
Senior presentations and under 16s will be held on Friday, 21 April.
