Goon performs strongly

NAR Nar Goon made its presence felt and showed great potential at the start of the season, all teams other than C grade recording victories over Bunyip.

A GRADE

With key defender Meg Evans still playing for Victoria the top team managed a good win against a strong and competitive Bunyip side. Despite the gusty conditions the goaling from Sam Cox and Rebecca Murphy was consistently accurate. Sam Hodge and Cassie McMillan were tremendous in defence, forcing many turnovers.

B GRADE

The Goon played a terrific game, particularly in the second and third quarters. The defence played a strong game again, Raynie Armstrong taking six intercepts throughout the game and Michelle Collins intercepting a few through the midcourt. Prue Evans came up from the under 17s to fill in and played a great game as goal shooter beside Erin Murphy, both goaling well.

C GRADE

With a new lineup the Goon struggled at the start against a more experienced Bunyip side. With changes being made every quarter the team continued to contest every pass and won the final quarter. Best player was Sharlene Bedser who, due to short numbers, had to play in goals and put in a fine effort. In the last quarter the Goon showed a lot of promise.

17 AND UNDER

Nar Nar Goon played a strong game and led at every quarter, however a very determined Bunyip side fought hard in the last quarter to try and take the game, but the Goon girls defense held strong and they took away the win. Sinead Scanlon worked well in defense and was strong in the mid court. Chantelle Joosten came up from the under 15s for her under17 debut, taking out the award as best her position as goal keeper and making many intercepts.

15 AND UNDER

Nar Nar Goon played a strong defensive game with many intercepts. The goalers, Ashlee Dore and Meaghan Douglas, started to move well together. Jodie Van Boxtel at wing defence combined well with the other defenders and played a strong game to take out the award for the week.

13 AND UNDER

In wintry conditions Nar Nar Goon the court keen to overcome a determined Bunyip side. Fine work in the ring from attacking players allowed Ruby Riley and Claire Templeton to produce beautiful goals. A solid defensive performance and fighting effort from Brittney Stocco took the week’s bestoncourt award.
