THE word ‘expert’ has been brought into disrepute after Gazette CaseyCardinia League tipsters Haydn Robins and Ben Robertson tied with 94 winners each to lead the 2005 tipsters poll after the homeandaway season.
Gazette football reporter Brad Kingsbury was two winners away in third place and blamed his blind faith in Berwick early in the year and to a lesser degree, the inconsistency of Devon Meadows, for the performance.
While Kingsbury (unsuccessfully) used form and logic to calculate his selections, Robertson relied on his knowledge of the game gained over many years playing and coaching.
Robins, on the other hand, used sheer guesswork and his famous ‘respect method’ that revolved around which side he had less time for in each game.
Apparently form, ability and effort have little weight in this method of selection and it just goes to show that anyone can win a football tipping competition.
The trio will continue to provide their selections during the finals series starting this weekend.
It just proves anyone can win
