Junior cyclists to compete

By Jim Mynard
CASEY Cardinia Human Powered Vehicle and Cycling Club (CCHPVCC) will hold a junior criterium race meeting at Casey Fields on Saturday, 23 September.
CCHPVCC president John Perrin said the event was part of an introduction program for new cyclists.
Mr Perrin said races would be established for riders from primary school age to under 19.
“Novice races will be held in the morning and then licensed races in the afternoon.”
He said the club would also arrange a series of shorter Friday twilight events for term four this year, aimed at helping new primary school riders become involved.
“We also hope a series of junior criterium races set for term one next year will give more schools an opportunity to introduce this sport to interested cyclists.”

Mr Perrin said organisers were pleased with the growth of cycling in the region. He said the club was seeing many positives.
“Some are wonderful new Casey Fields HPV and Criterium track, many generous volunteers, including parents, grand parents, teachers, past teachers and past students,” he said. “A generous grant from VicHealth to increase active participation in sports has enabled the club to focus on building events and resources quickly, and support from Community Services Victoria staff. We look forward to continuing growth of the awareness and participation in cyclingrelated activities.”
