Mick up to scratch

MICK McManus fired an excellent 73 (scratch) to be the leader of the first round of Pakenham Golf Club’s men’s 2006 championships played on Saturday.
There were 175 competing in the championships to be played over three weeks and the course was heavy with a CCR of 72.
The championships are sponsored by Rawdon Hill Constructions.

MONTHLY MEDAL

The May monthly medal, sponsored by Racers Entertainment Complex, was also held on Saturday and was won by Frank Morris with 68.
A grade was won by Chris Lim (70) and C grade went to Marc Merigan with 73 and the scratch winner was Mick McManus with 73.
Nearest the pins saw a couple of doubleups with Mick McManus taking out both the golf shop second hole and the Hungry Jack’s 14th hole and Bret Mottrom winning both the Pakenham Subway fifth hole and the B.M.R. Autos second shot on the sixth.
Neil Mani was the winner of the Dante’s Woodfired Pizza eighth hole and the Pakenham Pizza 16th hole went to Norm Coley.
Scott Milnes was the winner of the Unique Bathroom Design and Renovations second shot on the 11th hole and Martin Spurway had a birdie on the fifth to win a ball.
The B.M.R. Autos longest drive for A grade went to Clint Walker and B grade to Shane Wilkinson.
Jeff Paterson won the McIntyre Painting Cgrade longest drive.
Downtheline winners were Neil De Silva 68, Ivan Katta 70, Dan Cameron 71, Clint Walker 71, Paul Hobson 71, Mick McManus 71, Jamie Barker 71, Doug Law 72, Robert Young 72, Cliff Pain 72, Steve Bloomfield 72, Rob Sandiford 73, Ross MacLean 73, Mike McKenna 73, Dave Tyler 73, Grant McKay 73, Mick Conroy 74, Al Campbell 74, Rob Wedlock 74, Mark Hatton 74 and Colin MacLean, Gary Westwick, David Wylie, Bret Mottrom, Clint Sezney, Mason Shadwell and Graeme Mack all on 75.
The raffle winners were Basil Bate and Neil Carswell.
This week is the second round of the championships.

MEN’S PENNANT

All Pennant games for West Gippsland were called off, due to the weather conditions.

ROTARY DAY

The course was busy on Tuesday with the Rotary Charity Day played from noon with 60 players taking part.
There were some good prizes offered and the winning team of the ‘Baker Boys’ (Neil McLatchie, Mick Spiteri, Steve Kerley and Stewart) went home with big smiles.

SAVE ON MEMBERSHIP

Any member who introduces a new full adult member will receive 20 per cent off their membership renewal.
This is a great way to reduce fees.

MONDAY RESULTS

There was no play for members last Monday due to the ladies pennant being played at Pakenham.

WEDNESDAY RESULTS

The morning competition was Stableford with the winner being Wayne Lamers on a countback from Brian Doherty, both coming in with 37 points.
Down the lines went to Scott Hooper 36, Stuart Hare 36, Max Cole 35, Rob Yates 34, Bert Burniston 33, Mick McManus 33, Mark Bell 33, Rory Sutton32, Bob Morrison 32 and Steve Chapman 32.
Stojko Kresojevic was the winner of the nearest the pin on the eighth hole and the 14th went to John Kingman.

SUNDAY RESULTS

There was no play on the course on Sunday due to the weather.

LADIES

Under threatening skies and windy conditions 43 Pakenham ladies played monthly medal and the third round of the silver spoon.
The winner of the medal was Marg Jackson with 71 nett and the silver spoon winner was Faye Barnes with 76 nett.
The divisiontwo winner was Faye Barnes on a countback with 76 and the divisionthree winner was Jan Creagh with 79 nett.
Graeme and Dianne Boyd were thanked for their continued sponsorship of the medal.
Nearest the pin on the second hole was won by Marg Jackson and the eighth hole went to Shirley Roberts.
Norma Robertson won the putting with 25.
Longest drives went to Shirley Roberts (division one), Libby DeHey (division two) and Faye Leighton (division three).
Downtheline ball winners were Marjorie Dean 76, Wendy Carter 77, Shirley Roberts 78, Libby DeHey 79, Leonie Sander 80, Marg Turner 82 and Marg Andrews 82.
The divisionfour pennant team was congratulated on winning 3/2 last Monday.
This Thursday is Stableford for Pakenham Caravan Park Day.
Those wanting to play in the championships are asked to pay $17 (allinclusive fee) on Thursday 11 May.
Any not wanting to play in the championships will play Stableford at the end of the field for a ball competition.

SATURDAY LADIES

This was a small ball competition due to the men’s championships with the winner being Elly Briggs with 30 points from Viki Maxwell with 28 points.
Nearest the pin was won by Marjorie Dean.
