THE Baw Baw Livestock Exchange Wednesday fat cattle market last week saw 335 cattle, and the Thursday cow and bull sale saw 362 cows and 22 bulls.
With 160 less cattle at this week’s fat cattle sale, prices for some categories eased on last week.
Vealers bucked the trend rising five cents to 223 cents per kilogram on average with a top of 258.2.
The 163 head was an increase of seven head.
A total of 79 less heifers made to 240.2 and an average of 168.1, down on the previous Wednesday.
A total of 116 steers topped at 244.2 for an average of 187.2.
Quality on average was down, but demand is still strong. Again there was a few pens suitable for restockers.
With a yard average of 198.2 cents, the per head price was $793.
On Thursday unweighed cattle topped at $900 while weighed cows reached 185 cents per kilo.
The yard average for cattle yarded was 140 cents. Bulls averaged 161 cents and made to 204.2 cents per kilo, with the total yarding of 384 head averaging 142.1 which was steady on last week.
