IN FRESH, sunny conditions the Casey Scorpions defeated Port Melbourne by 96 points at Casey Fields on Sunday afternoon.
The Scorpions were looking to break back into the top eight despite the previous week’s defeat by Sandringham.
They set the tone for this match and blasted the first eight goals of the match before Port kicked a major before quartertime. The 47point break for the Scorpions at the first change effectively ended the contest.
Winning the ball from the stoppages, thanks to Carmody, McGough and Harrison, helped the Scorpions increase their lead and hold on the match, kicking 5.4 to 1.3 in the second quarter.
In the last quarter the floodgates opened as the Casey Scorpions outscored Port 7.4 to 3.2 in the final quarter. In the end it was a well balanced team effort as the Casey Scorpions played their best match of the season to date.
Scores: Casey Scorpions 22.21.153 d Port Melbourne 8.9.57.
Goals: B. Brooks, D. Biagi, B. Scalzo 4, M. Hobbs 3, J. Cann, A. Murray 2, N. Carmody, M. McGough, B. Cosgriff 1.
