PAKENHAM Post Office has got behind efforts to recycle the many Christmas cards that pass through their office each year.
As part of the popular recycling push, Australia Post outlets are giving away one million Cards 4 Planet Ark envelopes.
Used cards can be placed inside and mailed free of charge at any of the 15,000 post boxes nationwide.
“Australia Post is making it easier to recycle Christmas cards,” Pakenham postal manager Darren Frian said.
“We have had an excellent response from our customers to the Cards 4 Planet Ark program, which shows how much the people of Pakenham want to do something to help the environment.”
Australians posted more than 100 million cards and envelopes to each other over the holiday season.
“It’s great to know that we can recycle them so easily,” Mr Frian said.
Now in its 13th year, more than 550 million greeting cards have been recycled through this initiative.
Iconic entertainer Kamahl is the ambassador for the Cards 4 Planet Ark campaign this year.
Cards and envelopes can also be placing into the Planet Ark recycling bins at most Coles Supermarkets.
