PAKENHAM Police are taking action to crack down on street drinking.
Inspector Chris Norton said police were taking a zerotolerance approach to the practice of drinking in the streets.
He said it was an offence to consume alcohol or have an open container of alcohol in public places within the Cardinia shire.
Police will confiscate and emptying containers with alcohol and issue offenders with a $200 fine.
Inspector Norton said the Pakenham central business district was one area of focus for the crackdown.
