Super tough for Beaconsfield

BEACONSFIELD thirddivision Superules side failed to avenge an earlier defeat by Craigieburn, going down by six points at the weekend.
Early in the game, Burr, returning from a shoulder injury, took a heavy knock and took no further part in the game.
Gubbins was selected in the centre and this proved to be successful as he provided the spark that Beaconsfield needed, drifting forward and marking 35 metres out to get its first goal.
Beaconsfield got further goals through Lamont and Gubbins.
Craigieburn got a goal late in the quarter, but Beaconsfield hit back via Gubbins before the siren.
Beaconsfield slowed a little in the second quarter, but its attack on the ball was hard and at halftime led by 10 points.
Craigieburn started the quarter with a goal to get within a four points.
Beaconsfield’s backline was under more pressure, but stood firm with Walsh, Ross and Andy Gubbins all having good games.
Sherris, on the back flank, was also having a good game, running off his man to create the switch play and kick to a teammate or into Beaconsfield’s forward zone.
Pete Richardson, at fullback, was having his best game to date and getting plenty of attention from his opponent.
Flight and Bell were now on the ground and being fresher managed to get free up forward for Beaconsfield’s only two goals for the quarter and a fivepoint lead going into the last.
Craigieburn threw everything at Beaconsfield in the last term, but again the backline stood firm.
It was tight, hard football with numerous ballups in Craigieburn’s forward line and from one of these a snap out of the pack gave it the lead.
Beaconsfield got the ball forward to Vandenberghe who kicked truly to give it the lead with about seven minutes to go.
For the remainder of the term the ball was in Craigieburn’s forward line and when its fullforward marked 10 metres out and converted, it ended Beaconsfield’s chance of a win.
Scores: Beaconsfield 9.9.63 lost to Craigieburn 10.9.69.
Goals Beaconsfield: M. Gubbins 4, Lamont, Flight, Stewart, Belle, Vandenberghe 1.
Best Beaconsfield: M. Gubbins, Walsh, Lowe, Pete Richardson, Sherris.
