Commuters get safer transit

COMMUTERS using the pedestrian crossing at Beaconsfield train station will be much safer when a $230,000 upgrade is completed in March next year.
Residents have long campaigned for safety improvements to the area and are delighted construction is finally underway.
Plans for the crossing include automatic pedestrian gates that will operate when a train approaches the platform along with other warning systems.
The upgrade will also result in vastly improved access allowing wheelchairs, the elderly and pramusers to navigate the crossing more safely.
The $230,000 being spent at Beaconsfield train station is part of the State Government’s commitment to upgrading dangerous pedestrian crossings throughout Victoria.
