THE Berwick and District Benevolent Society would like to thank the supermarkets that allowed us to place bins adjacent to their stores last Christmas to collect toys and food for hampers.
The response from the public was great, and we do appreciate this aid.
Many others donated, including Narre Warren and Berwick Inner Wheel, Montuna and Beaconhills golf clubs, Narre Warren North Red Cross and members of Fernwood Ladies Gym.
Many local schools participated in the food drive, which boosted our supplies and we thank them for that.
Special thanks to St Margaret’s, which again collected a huge amount.
Narre Warren North Primary School allowed us the use of its multi-purpose room for packing, and also had children bring food and toys as well. It was a great effort and much appreciated.
Throughout the year we regularly receive food from the Berwick Anglican Church and the Berwick Church of Christ, and at Christmas time there is an even greater collection.
The Cardinia Presbyterian Church is also a wonderful supporter of our society.
We also receive continuing support from the City of Casey, The Narre Warren Op Shop and the Berwick Op Shop. The Soroptimists International of Berwick, the Berwick Rotary Club and many others, also made welcome donations.
The Berwick Woodworkers supplied us with some wonderful toys again and their labour of love is to be commended.
Thank you to the volunteers (many of whom were not members of our society), who helped collect and pack more than 250 hampers, and distribute over 500 toys. We could not manage this exercise without their assistance.
Thank you also to those who supported and donated to our annual fundraising dinner last March. We hope we receive similar help this year.
For more details about the dinner on 3 March phone 9796 8550.
Fay Powell,
President,
Berwick and District
Benevolent Society.
