Lion bats defy bowlers

PAKENHAM’S A-grade team held out Emerald’s bats for a 28-run win on Saturday.
Defending 238, The Lions opened the bowling with Ash Bailey in his debut over in A Grade and Andrew Cooper.
The first wicket fell early with Dave Nagel taking a catch off Bailey and the next when Cooper hit the stumps, taking Emerald’s score to 2/18.
Brett Harrop sent the next batsman to the pavilion with a direct hit on the middle stump.
Troy Farrell’s catch got the score to 4/97.
The game got tight and Emerald was looking good until the 78th over when Cooper took a catch to see the score at 8/203.
In the last over the Lions struck and Emerald was out for 210.

B GRADE

After a disappointing loss to Nyora last week, the Lions went back hoping to regain some pride.
The Lions were 3/27 overnight and lost the first batsman off the first ball.
Things didn’t get any better from there, Pakenham all out for only 37 runs.

D GRADE

Playing Kooweerup and defending 214 at home, the Lions needed seven wickets after having the score at 3/47 overnight. These came easily with Kooweerup being all out in the 37th over.
Best of the bowlers were Graham McCraw 4/38, Jared Goldsack 3/21 and Denis Porter with 3/10.
Kooweerup batted again and had the score at 2/125, with Daryl Williams and Greg Hogben both taking wickets.

E GRADE

Pakenham was defending 119 and had Emerald 3/18 at the start of play.
Adrian Bailey and Michael Chilcott opened the bowling and tied the bats up early and Mick Chilcott took the first wicket after 10 overs.
The fifth wicket fell when a misfield by Chris Chilcott turned into a run-out with the score at 30 and Emerald then lost two quick wickets to be 7/34.
Paul Hart bowled tightly, but Chilcott and Bailey got the last three wickets to have Emerald all out for 76.
Best of the bowlers were Michael Chilcott 7/39, Adrian Bailey 2/13 and Paul Hart- 0/21.
Pakenham had a bat and made 4/43, Jason Sutherland top scoring with 25.
A good win for the Lions.

F GRADE

Pakenham travelled to Catani, won the toss and elected to bat.
Wickets fell fast and Western Australian visitor Garry Powell batted well for 44, taking the score to 4/66.
Simon North tried to pump up the score, making 39. Matt Ursell came in with a late-swinging 17.
This took the score to 150 at the end of the innings.
The Lions got off to a good start with Brett Hanks taking a wicket in his first over.
Then it fell apart with five catches dropped and Catani winning by four runs.

UNDER 16

The team travelled to Emerald only to be washed out.
This week the one-day game will start at 8.30am

UNDER 14

Pakenham won the toss and sent Emerald in to bat.
Raff Visser took two quick wickets, taking three all up.
Daniel Doyle kept his end tight and took a wicket; Phil Ross took two for only one run.
The Lions put in a great fielding effort to have Emerald all out for 62 and in reply finished the day with 0/17.
