Runs galore for Nyora

NYORA’S Bgrade bats amassed a mighty 261 to down Merinda Park in the first oneday game of the season on Saturday.
Nyora batted first with Mark Pearse and Brenton Hackett opening. Hackett was dismissed in the third over leaving Nyora at 1/5.
Pearse continued on making a wellcompiled 64. He gained support from Nick Fairbank, (25) and Jake Hackett (29). Andy Collis took over from Pearce making 43. Adam Tagliaferro chipped in with a crafty 20 and Brendan Hayes made 21 not out in the later overs. Nyora scored a massive 9/261 off 40 overs. Merinda Park was never in with a chance. All bowlers performed well, containing Merinda Park to 8/116. Pick of the bowlers were Tagliaferro (2/21), Matt Hendry (2/14) and Nick Fairbank (1/15). Brenton Hackett and Kelvin Toogood also took a wicket each.

Nyora faced KilcundaBass at home for their onedayer. Nyora batted and Daniel Morrison and Billy Hayes opened and took the total to 20 before Hayes was dismissed for seven.
Morrison backed up his century from last round with 54, Bill Hessels continued his good form making 66 and Lee Jose played a swashbuckling innings that ended when he was caught for 59. Nyora finished on 9/222 after 40 overs. Nyora bowled tidily during the first 20 overs, KilcundaBass in trouble at 3/75.
However, a few mistakes in the field allowed KilcundaBass to get back on top and chase down the total with nine balls to spare. Billy Hayes bowled with good pace and guile to end with figures of 2/27. Daniel Kerrison (0/23) was unlucky not to pick up a wicket. Andrew Cavigan bowled one over for 2/4, Peter Jenson and Lee Jose both picked up a wicket. Jenson was also involved in an excellent runout where he caught the nonstriker off guard, throwing down the stumps from square leg.

Nyora played Kooweerup away and batted first. Jack Hackett made 19, Aaron Ford 10, Billy Hayes 18 and Jacob Bohmer was left stranded at 11 not out and Nyora was bowled out for 85. Kooweerup passed the total comfortably in the 11 over finishing at 1/108, with the only wicket being a runout by Dylan Heylen and Billy Hayes.

Nyora 4/98 defeated Cardinia 7/95 for its first win of the season. Playing a one day game, Nyora batted first and the top order started the new year off well, the first wicket falling with the score on 37, the second on 64, to finish 25 overs on 4/98. Best with the bat were Gavin Hackett (16 retired), Michael Van Weel (16 retired), Jack Strybosch (15 retired) and Jade Ellams.
The game went down to the final over with Cardinia needing six runs to win with four wickets in hand.
Nyora held its nerves, with great fielding and catching throughout the innings, to win by three runs. The best bowlers were Jade Ellams (2/5), Jay Breen (1/5), Jack Strybosch (1/6).
