CASEY residents are catching on to the 10,000 steps program.
The program aims to keep track of the number of steps a person makes in a day and sets the ideal at 10,000.
Casey mayor Kevin Bradford said it was great to see people taking part in this simple, but effective, program that helps keep track of their physical activity and encourages them to get moving.
“Many people may not realise that physical inactivity is the second highest cause, behind tobacco use, of preventable death in Australia.
“By achieving 10,000 steps a day you will be well on the way to reaching the daily levels of activity recommended by medical experts.
“The program aims to increase awareness of the importance of physical activity in the community, and to increase the levels of physical activity undertaken by participants.
“To help people identify how much activity equates to 10,000 steps, pedometer kits are available for a fourweek loan from branches of the CaseyCardinia Library Corporation.
“Participants wear a pedometer clipped onto their clothing near the hip and with each step the pedometer registers the movement as a step and continues to keep count.”
They can also be bought for about $30.
