Thousands help wave bikers off to GP

EVERY man and his dog flocked to the main strip of Cranbourne on Saturday to see thousands of motorcyclists take off in the annual MRA Cranbourne GP Run.
About 12,000 people witnessed five times world motorcycle champion Wayne Gardner wave off the large convoy of riders heading to Phillip Island to watch the Australian Motorcycle Gran Prix.
Mr Gardner was joined in the cherry picker by the City of Casey’s Young Citizen of the Year Shannon Barnes, who was thrilled with her last minute callup.
All went to plan for organisers on the day, who were thrilled with the atmosphere that was created by the huge crowd that turned up.
Fans were entertained with music, entertainment, sidestalls and a minimoto demonstration as part of the full day of family fun.
The GP Run is organised by the City of Casey events team in conjunction with the Motorcyle Riders Association and this year had the backing of Star News Group as an official media partner.
